The social eficiency of the cinema´s contribution to the construction of urban imagery, and especially that which was generated around the problem of migration from the provinces to the capital, is the theme studied in this article. The representation in the cinema of this theme did not excessively stereotype a character, but rather a whole scenario, plot and conclusion, and became one of the most recurrent themes throughout this century. The essay articulates the analysis of the contents of national cinematographicp roductions and the labor of focus groups -hose main aim was that of capturing the sense of imagery of Mexico City in the proceeses of reception of photographic and cinematographic images.

La eficacia social de la contribución del cine a la construcción de los imaginarios urbanos, en particular aquel que se fue generando en tono a la cuestión migratoria de la provincia a la capital, es el temsa que estudia este artículo. La representación filmica de esta temática no estereotipó exclusivamente a un personaje sino todo un escenario, una trama y una conclusión, volviéndose uno de los temas más recurrentes a lo largo del presente siglo. El trabajo articula el análisis de contenido de las producciones cinematográficas nacionales y la realización de grupos de enfoque, cuyo objetivo central fue captar el sentido imaginario de la ciudad de México en los procesos de recepción de imágenes fotográficas y filmicas.
